Day 07: Legoland

Thats us been here a full week now and were up early today to catch a bus to Legoland for Patrick’s 7th birthday! All the kids got up (eventually) and they were all really well behaved, even though they were tired, so good start to the day. Taxi to the pick up point and all aboard a big Legoland bus and we pick prime seats just in front of the LCD screens. It started playing Lego Star Wars movies which kept the kids entertained. An hour or so later (not quite sure as I had a little power nap :) we arrived at the park. The bus driver was due to return at 8pm, which was the only pick up and meant another full day full of theme park fun. Well that was the plan… We set off to the Lego shop first of all (It was actually called The Big Shop, which made me laugh) to see about getting Patrick’s ultimate Lego set, The Death Star. This flagship Star Wars set has 24 minifigures. measures about 16.5 inches tall and includes over 3,800 pieces! Its also nearly £300 so thought it would be a good idea to hang off and get it cheaper at Legoland in the US. We were wrong. It was the same price and with the size of it, wouldn’t really have been beneficial to make the purchase. Patrick took it pretty much in his stride and we set off into the park, with us promising profusely to get it from the local Toys R Us or somewhere similar.

The weather was really temperamental and due to impending thunderstorms they closed most, of the rides for the day :( By 2pm we had got round a majority of the park and had been on only two rides (even the playground areas were closed) so the day was beginning to be a bit of a wash out and we still had another 6 hours to go! In order to try to get something out of P’s birthday, we cut our losses and got a taxi back to our hotel.

Legoland was quite disappointing, with the exception of the Star Wars Miniland, the park was similar but smaller to its Windsor counterpart, so we had actually seen most of it before. It also didn’t compare to the parks we’d visited all week and with the fact we never got on many rides and been round the park in less than half a day, its not something I could recommend :( It didnt seem to dampen Patrick’s spirit though and he was pleased with what we did today.

Anyway, we went out for a nice birthday dinner after getting back and Patrick, who had the freedom of choice over anything on the table, went for Teriyaki glazed Salmon – ooohhh fancy. The staff who were notified that it was Patrick’s birthday, brought out a huge birthday chocolate chip muffin after dinner, but nthey werent signing the regular Happy Birthday song, no, this was like a rap come military cadence - it was quite funny to hear and I got it all on tape.

Realising that we never got anything for Patrick’s birthday save the promise of a future Lego purchase, we set about going to get the iPad Minis for the kids. this proved a little more difficult that anticipated, but finally found a Walmart who had them in stock. Happy Patrick (oh and Robert and Grace, who was running around shouting iPad Mini, iPad Mini, iPad Mini… continually).

Seaworld tomorrow - Ann’s been looking forward to this the most, so hopefully we’ll get some better weather. Anyway, here’s some random pics of today…
