Just bought a new toothbrush...

A relatively common thing to do I suppose, I mean they even recommend that you do it at least every three months. What makes this special, is that this toothbrush - a green Colgate one with a tongue cleaner as it happens - has been purchased for the exclusive use on our impending holiday. The purchase of your holiday toothbrush sets in stone the fact that it is actually happening - that your are, in a few short weeks, leaving on a jet-plane (or bus, or train or however you plan to get there).

Not having been a proper holiday for several years, makes this all the more significant. It’s the little things I suppose - and preparation whether its ordering new passports, buying new clothes or even purchasing the humble bar of soap and toothbrush, all adds to the experience! Yes, you can’t wait to get there and you wish it was tomorrow, but there’s something in the anticipation, preparation and the never ending wait that stirs your emotions, making it all the more pleasurable. Without it, its a holiday - a generally pleasurable time which lasts about a fortnight (that’s two weeks, for the uneducated). With it however, with it, you turn it into something much, much more…**

So, yes my £1.00 toothbrush purchase excites me, not because if what it is, but of what is represents…
